August 2023 Message to Seniors

Dear Class of 2024,

Welcome to the beginning of the year!

I’m happy to invite you to participate in Convocation on Saturday, September 9th, 2023, the ceremonial opening of the academic year, and the kick-off to your senior year at Williams College. Students and faculty march in academic regalia, and the ceremony will take place in Chapin Hall. The procession will line up at 10:15 am, and the ceremony will run until about noon. Lunch will be available in the dining halls until 2 pm. There will be more details about the ceremony in a later communication.

If you are marching in Convocation, you may pre-order your Convocation regalia here beginning September 2. Please note that there will be plenty of robes available, however pre-ordering will make the pick-up run much more quickly, so you are encouraged to do this. Ceremony participants can use their student ID to charge regalia to their term bill. (Students receiving financial aid will be credited via EphPay for their regalia.) At checkout, choose “store pickup” and check the radio button for “Williams College Campus ID”. Select the Cap and Gown account and enter your student ID number (without the “W”) to complete the transaction. You will get an email confirming your order and another notification when it’s ready to pick up. You can then go to The Williams Bookstore during one of the times listed here to pick up your cap and gown:

Wednesday, September 6, 1 – 4 p.m.
Thursday, September 7, 2 – 5:30 p.m.
Friday, September 8, 1 – 4 p.m.
Saturday, September 9, 9 – 10 a.m

You are expected to hold on to your robe for Commencement. Any seniors (including those receiving grant aid) who need a second set of robes in the spring will be charged at that time. If you are not participating in Convocation, you will have another opportunity at the end of the year to pick up your cap and gown for Commencement.

We look forward to seeing you and starting off your senior year!

Hope to see you there!
